C. S. Lewis on the Value of Reading Old Books (via A Thinking Reed)

Worth a read, and a thought!

There is a strange idea abroad that in every subject the ancient books should be read only by the professionals, and that the amateur should content himself with the modern books. Thus I have found as a tutor in English Literature that if the average student wants to find out something about Platonism, the very last thing he thinks of doing is to take a translation of Plato off the library shelf and read the Symposium. Soul Surfer

Very rarely do I get excited about something coming out in the movie theater’s.  On April 8,  2011, a movie that I have been waiting for, is coming out.  Soul Surfer is the story of Bethany Hamilton.  Bethany was attacked by a shark, and lost her arm as a result.  This tragedy not only gave her the will to push on and do better in her surfing, but it gave her the “voice” to be heard, and to share her faith in Christ.

I would encourage you to get out…take your friends and family, go see a movie together.  While you are at it, be sure to check out the Bethany Hamilton page on facebook, as well as the Soul Surfer page.  If you want to see the movie Trailer, you can check my facebook page, or got to youTube.

I ordered a new book off Amazon, and today it finally arrived.  As with any new book I have been waiting for, I sat down and neglected everything else I was in the middle of, to  read the first chapter.  It is what I do to see if I can be hooked, so that the rest of my day I will be longing for that time in the evening, when the work of the day is done, and I can sit down and read.
Just want to let you know I am hooked.  Don’t really want to get back to the taxes that are spread out on my dining room table. Don’t really want to clean my house, or make dinner.  Don’t really want to run back into town, yet again, to finish the errands that need to be done.  Don’t really  want to go to the gym.  Don’t really want to write that letter to my brother that I have been dreading, and praying over, and grieving about for the past 30 hours.  Just want to sit down and get lost in “Discovering who you are (I am) , how God feels about you (me), and what it will take to reach your (my) destiny”
That’s “You…Revealed”
